Rs. 250 million water supply equipment gifted

A consignment of water supply equipment and material worth Rs. 250 million was gifted to the Urban Development and Water Supply Ministry by the Presidency of Council of Ministers, Italian Civil Protection Society - Sri Lanka Mission, to be used for Tsunami Affected Water Supply Systems.

Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena accepted the grant which included 6 water bowsers, 4 gulley emptiers, polyethylene pipes, GI pipes and specials.

The grant will be utilised for improving transmission lines at Kalutara, Negombo and Hambantota which will ensure improved supply of water to all the settlements in Kalutara water supply distribution area and part of the settlements in Hambantota and Negombo. Work on the laying of pipelines will commence by December this year.

Working Director NWS and DB Sunil Sarath Perera had been instrumental in arranging this timely assistance which would expedite major improvements to the water supply schemes in Kalutara, Negombo and part of Hambantota.
