Colombo Dockyard to repair Ocean Research Vessel Sagar Kanya
COLOMBO Dockyard Limited (CDL) operating in collaboration with
Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan is currently busy with major retrofit
repairs to Ocean Research Vessel Sagar Kanya owned by the National
Centre for Antarctic Ocean Research, India and managed by the Shipping
Corporation of India.
CDL ventured into Offshore engineering projects in year 2003,
starting off successfully with major lay-up repairs to Mobile Offshore
Drill Unit Sagar Vijay, thereafter earlier this year CDL successfully
completed a mega project of retrofit repairs to Floating Dock Navy -1
owned by the Indian Navy.
Successful completions of these landmark projects have established
CDL as a key player in the offshore repair sector.
Currently CDL is now fully engaged in the final phase of testing and
trials on the ORV. Sagar Kanya. In order to carry out the complex
retrofit repairs on ORV Sagar Kanya, she was accommodated in CDL's
125,000 DWT drydock and subsequently redocked in the 30,000 Dwt drydock
for completion of repairs.
The major retrofit repair scope involves installation of a new
dynamic positioning System from Konsberg Norway, upgrading of vessel's
existing bow thrusters from 850KW (existing) to 1,200KW (New) and
installation of retractable Azimuth thruster 1,000 KW from Brunvoll,
installation of specialised multi-beam echo sounder purpose built for
research work and complete replacement of all five generators with New
Watsila generators (5 Nos. x 1,000 KW). |
