Thanuja wins kudos

Silumina journalist Thanuja Dharmapala was felicitated at the Russian Centre, Colombo recently for her contributions to literature by translating Russian works into Sinhala. It was sponsored by the Russian Embassy and the Russian Centre.

Thanuja had her postgraduate education at Tashkert State University where she obtained a Master's degree in Mass Communication.

Her first translation from Russian into Sinhala was Kurulu Basa, a collection of Russian folk tales.

The original Russian book was published in 1700. It was written by A. F. N. Afanasiyev.

Then she translated Alexi Fathyanov's works entitled Fathyanov's Premaya.

Her next translation was A. N. Afanasiyev's fairy tales as Surangana Katha.
