Indian cinema contributed much to Sinhala film industry - Sunil
Sarath Perara
by Florence Wickramage
The Sinhala Cinema has a lot to learn from the Indian Cinema if it is
to improve as an Art and an Industry since the Indian Cinema has become
world famous as a mode of Art and Industry.
This was stated by Environmentalist and Working Director National
Water Service and Drainage Board Sunil Sarath Perera yesterday.
Perera was addressing a media briefing in Colombo yesterday in
connection with the visit of Jamuna Rani from India to grace the
Sarasaviya Film Festival.
Sunil Sarath Perera further added that the visit of Jamuna Rani has
provided an opportunity for the Sinhala Cinema to reassess its
performances and an avenue to engage in further research to develop the
industry.
The Indian Cinema has contributed much to the development of the
Sinhala Film Industry. The earlier Sinhala films were nurtured by Indian
Artistes such as Jamuna Rani, K. Rani, Bhanumathi, Jikki, A. M. Raja and
Dakshinamurthy and Indian film and music directors such as T. R. Papa
and Narayan Aiyar.
The diversity in Indian films is a main contributor towards its hold
on the world market and as such there is much room for the Sinhala film
industry to develop in the future by emulating the guidelines of the
Indian film industry which has reached international standards, Perera
said. |
