Tea production increases in September

The Sri Lanka Tea Board said that the total reported production of black tea in Sri Lanka during September 2005, amounted to 24,057,829 as against 21,986,435 kg, produced during the corresponding month in 2004. This shows an increase of 2,071,394 kg or 9.4%.

The black tea production during the year 2005 amounted to 239,192,018 kg, as against 226,052,751 kg produced in 2004, showing an increase of 13,139,267 kg or 5.8%.

The black tea production, 218,955 kgs of Green teas have been produced during the month under review. The cumulative production of Green teas since January 2005 amounted to 1,735,396 kgs.
