Two LTTE cadres taken into custody

The Emergency Calls Unit of the Kandy Police took in to custody two LTTE cadres who were allegedly from the areas of Point Pedro and Vavuniya, near a restaurant on Peradeniya-Kandy road around 3.00 p.m. last Sunday (23). The suspects had in their possession a special identity permit issued by the LTTE, as disclosed by the Police.

The arrest was made following a tip off received by the Kandy Emergency Unit OIC Kapila Bandara, I.P., who instructed P.S.Wasantha, P.C. Shantha and P.C. Indrawansa to arrest the two suspects who were lodging at the relevant restaurant during the past few months.

At the time of this arrest a Presidential Felicitation Ceremony under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was in progress at the Municipal Playground, Getambe, Peradeniya, attended by a host of senior Parliamentarians including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and Foreign Affairs Minister Anura Bandaranaike.
