Sam, Ian, Elizabeth and Indira in lead

SAM Gunaratne (Nett Total), Ian Tait (Gross Total) Elizabeth Noble
(Leading Gross Total) and Indira Tibblins (Ladies Nett Total) led at the
end of the Group one after second day's play at the 10th Annual
SriLankan Airlines Golf Classic 2005 organised by Victoria Golf and
Country Resort and sponsored by SriLankan Airlines which is currently
being worked off at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella, Kandy.
The morning's play was hindered by a heavy showers which cleared up
by the afternoon which helped the golfers who teed off in the second
session in same way. Over 75 golfers finished their two rounds and will
have to wait for another two days when the final result of the two
groups is analysed to determine the winner.
The course once again played hard much to the delight of the golfers
from 15 countries who enjoyed every bit of it. The arrangements at the
Victoria Golf and Country Resort was excellent and many golfers vowed to
comeback soon with their friends.
Sam Gunaratne - a former Vidyartha College cricketer who took to golf
just a couple of years ago led the Nett Total with 74 by making 35 on
the first round and 39 on the second round.
He played to a handicap of 9. Also excelling in this category were
Anura Dantanarayana 70, Roshan Dias 61, Ian Tait 68, Chamil
Wickremasinghe 69, Sidath Hemachandra 60, Barry Brown 59.
The Men's Gross Division is led by foreigner domiciled here Ian Tait
who has got 58 gross. Playing to a handicap of 5 made 28 gross on the
first round and 30 gross on the second day.
Sam Gunaratne finished second by getting a gross total of 57 just one
point behind. He got 27 on the first round and 30 in the second. Others
to excel in this division are Chris Holloway 46, Errol Johnston 50, Mike
Robinson 44, Chamil Wickremasinghe 55 and Binupa Wijesinghe 51.
Liz Noble leads the Ladies Gross Division with total gross 45 (21 and
24) followed by Pat Rodgers 43 (22 and 21)
The Ladies Nett Division is led by Indira Tibblins who has got 56
nett (28 and 27) and hot on heels of her are Pat Rodgers 55 (28 and 27)
and Liz Noble 55 (26 and 29) leaving the competition wide open. |
