One soldier killed in LTTE attack

THE LTTE carried out an attack on soldiers manning a jetty in
Santhiveli lagoon on Thursday night killing one soldier, military
sources said yesterday.
Soldier Dilanga Dissanayake, injured in the incident succumbed to his
injuries after he was admitted to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital on
Thursday night, sources added.
According to sources, the LTTE had launched this attack from the
direction of LTTE controlled area across the Santhiveli lagoon.
The LTTE cadres had attacked the security forces with T 56 guns after
firing a hand grenade towards them, sources added. The soldiers manning
the jetty had also fired towards the direction of the firing. However,
there was no confirmation about the damage to LTTE cadres.
The LTTE fired a RPG to the same jetty on Wednesday night from the
direction of the LTTE controlled area, sources added. The jetty was not
damaged in the attack.
SLMM Acting Spokeswoman Bilja Kutvonem told the Daily News that they
were not aware of such incident in Batticaloa. |
