LTTE's plans for Pongu Tamil bared

THE LTTE has planned to assassinate two Tamil politicians at its Pongu Tamil event on October 22 at a location in Trincomalee, adjacent to the office of the North and East Governor, security sources in the North said yesterday.

They said the attempt is designed to create mayhem and havoc in Trincomalee and blame the Armed Forces and the Sinhalese for the murders committed by the LTTE and to show the European Union (EU) that such atrocities are committed against the Tamil community by the Armed Forces and the Sinhala people.

Their motive is to get the EU ban on LTTE revoked.

They have also planned to create ethnic clashes and violent disorder by way of other terrorist activities. This is also considered as another move by the LTTE to get EU attention on the ban imposed on the LTTE, the sources said.
