PM promises cheaper fertiliser

by Rohan Mathes

With the objective of developing the agricultural sector and the farming community, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday pledged to provide fertiliser for Rs. 350.

Addressing a Presidential election rally in Mahiyangana, the Premier yesterday said that this could be considered as an investment.

Rajapakse said that to accelerate the development process, he would take steps to enhance investment for the provision of the crucial agricultural factors such as fertiliser and water. All plans will be based on uplifting the indigenous farming industry, he said.

He argued that although the UNP through its media was striving to boost its image and mislead the masses, based on the support pledged by CWC and SLMC leaders Thondaman and Hakeem. The support of the downtrodden and the working class people were with him, as his victory will be their victory on November 17.

Rajapakse added that he himself, originating from a rural and difficult area as Giruwapahuwa, well understood the pulse of the people and the problems they encounter in eking out a simple living. "I have the strength and practical solutions for them all," he said.
