Chamil bags a double at Lectra Golf Competition

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD schoolboy from Ecole International School, Digana
Chamil Wickremasinghe won a rare double by winning both the Men's Gross
and Nett Divisions while the versatile Niloo Jayatillake won the Ladies
Gross Division and twelve-year-old schoolgirl Maleena Awn the Ladies
Nett Division at the fourth round of the Lectra Golf Competition
organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by
Lectra Apparel Technologies (Pvt) Limited and worked off at the Victoria
Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy.
It was an excellent display by schoolboy Chamil Wickremesinghe who
beat many a seasoned campaigners to wrap up both the Men's Gross and
Nett Titles for the month. Playing to a handicap of 11 young Chamil
Wickremesinghe got a Gross 77 and followed up with a Nett 68 which
brought him both the titles.
Binupa Wijesinghe who has done extremely well in the previous two
rounds finished runner-up in the Gross Division with 80 gross. But
Binupa Wijesinghe plays to a handicap of two where he is faced with a
disadvantage where the Nett Division is concerned. Amal Cabraal with a
Nett 70 finished runner-up in the Nett Division.
Twelve-year-old schoolgirl from Ladies College, Colombo, Maleena Awn
who is an up and coming sailer and better known in the Yachting circles
gave one of the best ever displays soon in the Nett Division for ladies
when she finished with 62 nett and she was helped by two birdies.
In fact she had to miss the yachting practices at the Bolgoda Lake to
play golf at Victoria and it proved to be worth its while. Anusha
Senadeera with Nett 67 finished runner-up.
The struggle for the Ladies Gross Division continued between Niloo
Jayatillake and Suwen Selvaratnam two of the top lady golfers in the
island and the former won the title with 81 Gross while Anusha Senadeera
once again finished runner-up with Gross 84.
