15 polls law violators detained

FIFTEEN persons who had violated the Election Laws were taken into custody by the Police in several parts of the country.

They will be detained until the completion of the investigations and produced before the respective Magistrates, said Police Election Secretariat DIG Gamini Navaratne yesterday.

DIG Navaratne paid tribute to the public and the supporters of the presidential candidates for their unstinted support on nominations day at the Election Commissioners' Office at Rajagiriya.

The public and the party supporters were very cooperative with the Security Forces. Not a single incident was reported on that day, DIG Navaratne said.

The removal of posters and cut-outs of politicians on main roads was very successful. "We have removed all cut-outs of politicians contesting the forthcoming Presidential Election," DIG Navaratne added.

DIG Navaratne appealed to the public and party supporters to maintain the same standard that they maintained on the nomination day, until the election day and day after the elections.

Colombo DIG Pujit Jayasundera said that his men had carried out a good job in the City by removing all the cut-outs and the other posters immediately after the nomination day.
