President to extend fullest support to ensure PM's victory

THE discussion between President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse last Saturday night, soon after the President's return from the UNESCO conference in France, had been extremely fruitful, President's House sources revealed yesterday.

The discussion that was perfectly cordial lasted for nearly two hours involving a host of measures to ensure the victory of Presidential Candidate Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.

SLFP General Secretary Minister Maitripala Sirisena who was in Polonnaruwa also attended the discussion.

It is learnt that the importance of President Kumaratunga's participation in the Presidential Election Campaign was emphasised at this discussion.

President Kumaratunga, who took the initiative to secure the nomination of Premier Rajapakse as the party nominee for the Presidential Election, directed General Secretary Maitripala Sirisena to take all necessary steps to ensure the victory of Premier Mahinda Rajapakse.
