Please Help her

MRS. M. Y. HUSSAIN Umma (35 years) of Atulugama, Bandaragama is suffering from a rare disease with recurrent fainting attacks due to Neuro Cardiogenic Vasovagal Syncopy.

According to Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Asanga Dunuwilla, of the Colombo National Hospital, Colombo, this condition needs an implantation of a special type dual chamber permanent pacemaker and the approximate cost of this gadget is Rs. 350,000 at Mediteks, Colombo.

She is a mother of four school-going children and her husband is unemployed. Therefore, she finds it extremely difficult to foot this bill under the families abject poverty condition.

Help save an engineer

HIMAN Madusha Jayasundara (33), residing at Moratupitiya Road, Kaldemulla, Moratuwa, a Civil Engineer by profession (graduated from the Moratuwa University in 1998, a father of 1 1/2 year old daughter has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in July 2005 by Dr Kumar Weerasekara, Oncologist.

Fate has given another lease to redeem his life if he undergoes bone marrow transplant (BMT) at Tata Memorial hospital, Mumbai, India (under the supervision of Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Oncologist).

The estimated cost is four million Sri Lankan rupees. He is very grateful to his friends and relatives for their generous contributions but is still in need of further financial support.

Therefore, his family humbly requests financial assistance from generous philanthropists and the public in this regard.

Sri Lankan wins 'BELMAS' award

DR. MRS. JAYANTHI Gunasekara of the National Institute of Education, has been awarded the second prize in the Belmas best doctoral thesis of the year competition.

BELMAS is the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society based in the United Kingdom. Every year the two best doctoral theses are selected from, among the UK Universities for this award.

She is presently an Assistant Director General attached to NIE Maharagama and is the youngest daughter of Late T.A. Gunasekara and Mrs. D.C. Kuruppumulla. (both retired principals.) She is married to W.K. Wickramasinghe of SLLRDC and is a mother of two.
