No Lankan casualties

THE Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad has informed that it has not received any reports of Sri Lankan casualties following the earthquake that shook Northern Pakistan on Saturday, October 8, the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.

The High Commission is continuing to make inquiries to ascertain if there are any Sri Lankan nationals among those affected. It is also in contact with Sri Lankan students, military personnel and others.

Further information regarding Sri Lankan nationals in Pakistan could be obtained from the Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad on telephone numbers 009251-2828723/2278175 and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi on telephone numbers 009221-5346576/5346614 or the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo on 4718972/2382485.

There are around 500 Lankans in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad. Most Sri Lankans in Pakistan are in the education and textile sectors.
