Kingswood,St Peter's revive rivalry
KINGSWOOD College, Kandy and St. Peter's College will revive their
rivalry when the two teams clash in the prestigious Milo Schools
President's Trophy knock-out Rugby Tournament final at the Sugathadasa
Stadium today.
The kick off is at 5.00 p.m after the Premier Trophy final between
Isipatana College and Science College which will get underway at 3.45
p.m.
The Kingswoodians are of course in line for a double having already
clinched the 'A' division league championship with an unbeaten record.
But the Peterites have a score to settle with their opponents after
the two teams figured in a seventeen all draw in their league tournament
fixture played at the beginning of the season in Bogambara.
Kingswood have certainly struggled throughout this tournament and
have failed to display the same class and fluency which they exhibited
during the league championship where they won all games by convincing
margins.
In the quarter-finals they were stretched to a great extent before
overcoming a determined Thurstan outfit and then followed up with a
another close 9-6 victory in the semi-finals against their traditional
rivals Wesley College.
St. Peter's College too launched their campaign for the President's
Trophy with an unimpressive victory against their traditional rivals St.
Joseph's College in the quarter-finals but came out with a splendid
performance to beat the high riding St. Anthony's team 18-13 in the
semi-finals.
