Kit Premier League Soccer Championship 2005:

NYSC maintains lead

THE table leaders of the Kit Premier Soccer Championship 2005, Negombo Youth Sports Club extended their lead further when they defeated Renown Sports Club one goal to nil at police ground.

Negombo YSC now has a tally of 24 points from ten games. They have recorded eight victories and lost two games in the process.

The closest rivals to Negombo team are Ratnam SC from Kotahena and their home town rivals Jupiters SC. Ratnams have a total of 19 points from nine matches while Jupiters has collected 16 points from their ten matches.

Saunders Sports Club the defending champions who failed to live upto expectations are still trailing behind with only 11 points. They have so far winning two games, lost three and drew five for eleven points.

They are sure to lose the championship this season as they well behind the top contenders Negombo Youth SC and Ratnam SC.

Java Lane SC who occupies the bottom slot has only three points from ten games. They have failed to win a single match this season. Lost seven and drew three for the three points.

In the segment 'B' Navy SC lies right on top followed closely by Kandy York SC. Navy has totalled 22 points while the second placed York has 21 points under their belt. In this category victory SC is placed at the bottom with only a total of three points.

Last season too victory were the lost team, they got the opportunity to stay in the league due to the introduction of the now segment 'B' to accommodate more teams.

Negombo SC will take on Saunders SC on Sunday at Sugathadasa stadium. This game will definitely give an indication whether Saunders are making a come back to the game. If Saunders fail to deliver the goods here and NYSC will go further ahead and is sure to remain on top.

Jupiters SC play in their home den against another strong outfit from the Air Force. Homestars will have to go flat out to beat the Airmen if they are to stay at the third slot.

This weekend Navy SC will have things easy as they play lowly placed victory SC in a Segment 'B' encounter at Navy ground, Welisara.

But the Kandy York SC just a point behind leaders in this group. Navy have to face stiff opposition taking on Old Bens SC. At times Old Bens come out with fine performances to worry high riding teams.

If the Kotahena team came up with a classy are here at Reid Avenue. York SC go down a step from their second slot.
