Furuhovde arrives on monday

MAJOR General (ret'd) Trond Furuhovde, former head of mission of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, will visit Sri Lanka from October 10 to 18 as a Special Representative of the Royal Norwegian Government.

Furuhovde will consult with representatives of both the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE seeking their views on the status of the security situation and the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement.

Furuhovde will also meet with representatives of the Muslim Peace Secretariat and the Tokyo Co-chairs, states a Royal Norwegian Embassy press release.

As a meeting between the Government and the LTTE to discuss the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement is not likely to occur in the near future.

The visit is an opportunity for both parties to propose measures for strengthening the implementation of the agreement.
