TISL urges protection of State resources during election period
THE practice of misusing State Resources in election campaigns has
resulted in colossal losses to the State. It affects public finance and
also distorts the election results.
The people deplore this but a relatively small group of politically
appointed beneficiaries revel in it says a Press Release issued by
Transparency International Sri Lanka.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption
(Bribery Commission) has responded positively to the clarion call of the
public spearheaded by TISL and has decided to investigate and take
appropriate action under the law against those abusing public resources
during the forthcoming Presidential Election.
We have confidence that the Auditor General too is poised to take
firm action in this regard, it says.
TISL as a civil society organization have decided to monitor and
investigate these malpractices independently with a view to disclose and
expose the offenders to the public and also to place prima facie
evidence before the Bribery Commission.
In this respect, the Programme for Protection of Public Resources (PPPR)
will soon be launched. TISL urge the public to forward complaints
information to and co-operate with the Bribery Commission which keeps
the source of information confidential.
TISL also may be kept notified for purpose of following up. The
relevant addresses and contact details are given below:
The public could forward information to Bribery Commission 36,
