Ranil calls for unity between major parties
 

OPPOSITION Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed yesterday that the two main political parties must come together to find a political solution to the ethnic conflict.

Wickremesinghe addressing the media soon after arriving at the Elections Secretariat for nominations vowed to provide solutions to the burning issues of the people.

Stressing he intended to bring a final political solution to the ethnic conflict safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country, he reiterated that the people want the two main political parties to unite in this critical issue.

UNP Deputy General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said they have lined up 118 main election rallies islandwide attended by their leader starting from Kandy today.

It will also hold 40 rallies presided over by their Deputy Leader and 8000 zonal and grassroots level pocket rallies. Their main thrust will be on the door-to-door campaign which is to begin on October 12 in two stages - the first from October 12 to 25 and the second from November 10 to 14.

The UNP has planned six rallies in the East. They will conclude rallies in Colombo.
