New CEB Chairman

MOKSEVI Prelis, a qualified Engineer and an eminent Banker who was appointed as the new chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, assumed duties on Friday, October 7.

He has been involved in the Power sector as a member of the Power Sector Reforms Steering committee and as a member of the Monitaring and Advisary Committee on Power (MAC).

Prelis was also one of the members of the 13 member committee consisting of representatives of CEB Union, PUC, SEMA, CEB Management, Attorney General's Department, Ministry of Finance and external consultants and headed by Mr. Wimal Dissanayake - Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy.

Which formulated the new strategic initiatives which has the consensus by all the stakeholders, including the unions. He has served as the chairman CEB, on an earlier occasion form December 2001 to June 2002.

Prelis counts 23 years in Banking, having joined the Bank of Ceylon in 1976 and resigned as the Deputy General Manager to take up the appointment as the CEO of DFCC in 1981. Later, he served as CEO of Nations Trust Bank.

He has worked at the Steel and Heavy Industries in Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, USSR and the USA for more than one and a half decades.
