Colombo 'A' clinch Singer Trophy

Colombo 'A' won the 'Singer Sri Lanka' Trophy at the invitation Seven-a-side Veterans Football tournament concluded at the Vincent Dias Stadium recently. Six teams participated at this first ever tournament organised by the Badulla Veterans Sports Club.

J. T. Faleel, Regional Manager of Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. was the chief guest and distributed the Trophy. Sarath Fernando, President of the Badulla District Football League and Veteran Football player M. R. S. Amarapala were the guest of honour at this tournament.

In the semi-finals, Colombo 'A' beat Colombo 'B' by 3-1 while in the second semi-finals Badulla Maroons beat Hali-Ela by 4-3. At the finals, although Badulla Maroons held Colombo 'A' to a one all draw, Rienzie Walles (3) and Anton Silva (2) made the final score 5-1. R. T. Alphonso scored the only goal for Badulla.

R. M. Chandradasa controlled the game.

Colombo 'A' was represented by Shanthikumar, Jayashantha Liyanage, L. Priyantha, Rienzie Walles, Lalith Weerasinghe Anton Silva, S. Rukman and Anil Leonard.

Badulla Maroons: Team comprised Nimal Wijesekara, R. T. Alphonso, A. L. Weerasinghe, D. L. Nandapaola, M. F. Laheer, E. Venderget, Apila Athauda, Dayananda Weerasooriya and Ajith Hettiarachchie.
