Binupa snatches lead with a brilliant display

Fifteen year old Wycherly International School student Binupa Wijesinghe with a brilliant display in the third round has snatched the lead from Englishmen Ian Tait in the Lectra Grand Prix Golf Competition organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Lectra Apparel Technologies (Pvt.) Limited at the end of the third round and worked off every month at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy.

The latest standings in the Men's Gross Division reads Binupa Wijesinghe leading with 175 points followed by Ian Tait with 135 points. The story at the end of the second round was Ian Tait was in the lead with 125 points while young Binupa had 35 points and was in the second place.

It must be recalled that Binupa Wijesinghe missed the first round as he was playing golf abroad. Binupa Wijesinghe by displacing by an amassing 140 points which he gathered at the last round gives the indication that he is well set to retain the title which he won last year at the end of the 12 rounds. In third place is Srinivas Rao.

The Men's Nett Division is led by another 15 year old schoolboy from Colombo International School expatriate Klaes Rasmussen with 660 points who took over the lead from Rohan J. Perera who is lying second with 605 points. At the end of the second round it was Rohan Perera who was in the lead with 600 while Klaes Rasmussen was lying third 510 points.

At present Thejan de Silva and Srinivas Rao are jointly lying third with 550 points, and the much improved Shavinda Fonseka from Nuwara Eliya is in fifth place with 520 points.

Thirteen year old schoolgirl from Holy Family Convent Danushi Senadeera continues to lead the Ladies Nett Division for the third successive month with 510 points. She has done extremely well to remain in contention and continue the lead despite missing the second round of the competition. Lying in second place is expatriate from 'Old Blighty' Sandie McAndrew with 470 points and Roshni Sangani from the garments trade third with 395 points.

The Ladies Gross Division is led jointly by two of the leading golfers in the island Niloo Jayatilleke and Suwan Selvaratnam with 20 points each and a tense struggle between this duo is in store in the months ahead with both making a determined effort to remain on top.
