Tryphon's funeral on Monday
by Richard Dwight
"In the midst of life we are in death" for how else could it
otherwise be, for here we were last week around the self effacing,
genial Tryphon Mirando, having as usual a light-hearted banter at a
press conference, at the Colombo Plaza in connection with the
Janahsakthi sailing Nationals.
Never did the thought occur to us at that moment of time, that the
icy cold hand of death was hovering over him. He couldn't make it to the
event his company sponsored, for he had to go to England to answer the
call 'Home' in the highest sense of the term.
In the twinkle of an eye he slipped through life peacefully, into a
land of eternal bliss. It's a death that any sportsman dreams of and so
reserved for only the best.
Endowed with virtuous qualities and sober disciplined ways, he
believed that deeds were far more eloquent than words, for he knew when
to speak and when to withhold his speech.
Apart from being a stalwart of Royal College, a staunch supporter of
Tamil Union, with a fondness for singing in the church choir - he was
with deep commitment in harness in the cause and progress of Janashakthi,
as Chairman (Kotmale) and, as the Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket
(Interim Committee) and so at the comparative young age of 51 he
virtually died with his boots on, which speaks of the evanescence of
life.
His remains will lie from Sunday 9 from 12.00 noon, at his residence,
30/6, 2nd Lane, Koswatta, Nawala - the cortege will leave around 4.00 pm
on Monday 10 for burial at 4.30 pm, after a service in the Catholic
Chapel at the Borella (Kanatte) cemetery.
Parking facilities will be available at the former Collettes
premises.
Tryphon is survived by his wife Beverley and two daughters Tashiya
and Danisha. |
