Kumari Cooray takes own life

Kumari Cooray, the young woman who was at the centre of controversy involving a prominent politician was admitted to the Accident Service of the Colombo National Hospital early yesterday with burn injuries. She later succumbed to the injuries.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) with the Kollupitiya Police are conducting investigations into the matter.

According to the investigators Kumari had doused her body with petrol and attempted to set herself on fire.

Four security men including a private security officer of SLMC Rauf Hakeem who were at a nearby car park had rushed the victim to the accident ward in a Colombo Municipal Council ambulance.

CCD Director Sarath Lugoda told the Daily News yesterday that he had deployed a special squad to conduct investigations.
