Adhistana Pooja for Mahinda's victory

Thousands of women activists attached to Women's organisations of SLFP, JVP, MEP, LSSP, JHU and Mahajana Party will conduct an `Adhishtana pooja' before the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on October 9 at 10.00 am with the determination that the country be blessed with a just ruler at the forthcoming Presidential Election.

The wish of the country's people is to elect a virtuous ruler who has never engaged in any killings or corruption.

The entire future and hopes of the people will be decided on future President to be elected, Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi told a media briefing on Tuesday.

She said women are having fears on the decisive situation of the country. Therefore the women of all progressive parties will extend their cooperation to this Adhishtana Pooja blessing to elect a democratic and just leader like Mahinda Rajapakse as the next President of Sri Lanka.

Western Provincial Councillor Ashoka Lankathilaka said if the leaders are not seriously concerned about the people, the country will be ruined. The country can be developed for the benefit of the future generation by only a just ruler like Rajapakse.

There were certain periods where the people had to face various terror situations as a result of political violence. During the period of some UNP leaders, thousands of youth were sent on tyre pyres, she said.

Lankathilaka said an executive Presidential system is being operated in Sri Lanka. Therefore the next President to be elected should be a just ruler who can identify the pulse of the common people and their burning issues, she said.

"Of the country's total population 52 per cent are women. They have strong power. In our history, there are many occasions where the women came forward to safeguard the country.

Therefore, women decided to conduct this Adhishtana Pooja to give a spiritual power to Rajapakse whom we believe is the most suitable person to be elected as the next President," she said.
