Laugfs to invest Rs. 250 m on more supermarkets

Laugfs SunUp Supermarkets (Pvt) Ltd. will invest Rs. 250 million to
introduce more supermarkets.
The Laugfs Kottawa branch will be opened in October 13 while branches
would be opened in Jubille Post, Nugegoda, Moratuwa, Ja-Ela, Negombo,
Nawala and Negombo, Chairman W.K.H. Wegapitiya said. Being a fully owned
Sri Lankan enterprise, the Laugfs Group of Companies entered to the
arena in distribution of energy and related items have shown steady
growth in all its spheres.
It was also the first ever company to launch 24 hour Supermarkets.
"In 1995 the necessity to find an alternative for environment pollution
was a "dream come true" with the emerging of Gas Auto Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.,
which have now acquired the 'good will' and 'trust' of all user
customers", said Wegapitiya. The company also achieved a major
breakthrough by entering into the domestic cylinder market which was a
monopoly.
The company is now vigorously working towards becoming the third
player in petroleum distribution. Laugfs are launching an economical
chain of restaurants.
These restaurants would be housed in the upper floor of their super
markets. 'This decisive marriage of a supermarket and a restaurant will
benefit both partners and create greater customer participation,
satisfaction and closer association with the "SunUp" chain.
Also, Laugfs SunUp supermarket chain are joining hands with the
Colombo Municipal Council and the Ceylon Glass Company in an
environmental friendly gesture of collecting the unusable plastics,
paper, glass bottles, which are disposed from homes.
Sri Lankan consumers would be able to get rid of the garbage which
helps to preserve the environment. |
