German spikers to play five matches here

Weissenseer SV Sports Club of Berlin, Germany men's and women's volleyball team will play five matches during their 10 day tour of Sri Lanka.

The fourteen member team comprises seven men and seven women. The German spikers will play four matches in the North Western Province and one match in Anuradhapura.

They played their first match against the Marawila Lions Sports Club men's team on October 2 (Sunday) and on October 3 they played against Nattandiya Sports Club men's and women's teams. The spikers from Berlin will also play against St. Anthony's SC, Thoduwawa men's and women's team on October 4 and Thoduwawa Sports Club men's team on October 5. Their final match will be against a combined universities team at Anuradhapura on October 7.

The volleyball players from Germany are making their third tour of Sri Lanka having earlier visited the country in 1995 and 1998. They are hopeful that the tour will give them the much needed foreign exposure and experience which would stand them in good stead when they play in tournaments in Germany.
