UNP will continue Premadasa policies - Cooray

The United National Party (UNP) will continue with the policies of slain President Ranasinghe Premadasa, said B. Sirisena Cooray, the former UNP Minister addressing a meeting of Party Organisers of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.

He said the UNP hopes to ensure peaceful elections in the North Central Province. "The late President Premadasa rendered a great service to this country and the UNP has decided to carry forward his policies beneficial to the masses," he added.

Cooray dismissed speculation that the UNP was weak in the Province. "There is no basis for the view that the UNP is weak in the NCP. We have rectified shortcomings where necessary and have corrected all past weaknesses of the Party. We are very confident that Ranil Wickremesinghe will emerge the winner," he added.

The UNP has drawn up concrete plans to develop the country and its manifesto promises relief and prosperity to the masses, he said.
