DIG for prisons security

Justice and Judicial Reforms Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne has decided to appoint a Deputy Inspector General of Police to conduct all security arrangements in the prisons.

Minister has taken this step because the Prison Authorities were unable to avoid the threats and the attacks confronted by the prisoners during recent times.

The Ministry received informations that some of the prison officials have helped to take drugs, opium and cellular phones into the prisons due to the lack of security measures arranged by the Prison Authorities.

So, the Minister has decided to appoint a D.I.G. as Prison Commissioner (Defence) and this appointment will be presented for Cabinet approval in future.
