Kavinda and Tehani enter Trans Asia Open finals

TOP seeds Kavinda Cooray and Tehani Guruge moved into the final of the men's and women's open events respectively with convincing victories on the penultimate day of the Trans Asia Open Squash Championships continued at the hotel courts yesterday.

Cooray defeated M. Rizwan 10-8, 6-9, 9-2, 9-5 and set up a final clash with the bottom seed Hiran Perera who had the better of Y. Issaddin 9-5, 8-10, 9-2, 9-2 in the semifinal.

Tehani Guruge beat Champika Gunawardena 9-0, 9-3, 9-0 in the women's open semi-final and will meet the bottom seed Vidushi Gurunada who outplayed Randima Ranaweera 9-4, 9-6, 9-3.

In the boys under-17 tournament semi-finals C. Rajapaksa beat D. Senaratne 9-6, 9-7, 9-2 and Kasun Weerasuriya beat A. Issaddin 10-8, 9-4, 9-1. In the girls under 15 tournament semi-finals Tehani Guruge beat N. Gunawardena 9-3, 9-1, 9-1 and Vidushi Gurunada beat C. Gunawardena 9-0, 9-0, 9-2.

All finals will be worked off today with Wing Commander Noel Fernando the first President of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation as the chief guest and Roshan Gurusinghe Residential Manager of Trans Asia Hotel as the guest of honour. The SLSF website will also be launched after the awards ceremony.
