Kit Premier League Soccer Championships:

Jupiters go down, Ratnam moves up
 

RATNAM SC managed to stay at the top for a further week in the kit Premier League Soccer Championships which is in progress. Ratnam Sports Club from Kotahena who were the runners-up last year took the top slot three weeks ago from Jupiters SC from Negombo.

After the completion of seven games this season Ratnam SC came to the top with 16 points. They are closely followed by Negombo Youth Sports Club from Negombo.

Police SC who were placed sixth a few weeks ago managed to move few positions upwards to reach the third position.

Ratnam SC have registered five victories while losing one and drawing one game to collect sixteen points. The second placed Negombo YSC have a total of 12 points but it is made up from only six games. Their record stands as four wins and two losses.

Meanwhile the Air Force SC who stunned the high riding Ratnam SC few weeks ago failed to maintain their winning trend, and has gone down to seventh position with seven points from seven games. Their tally reads as two wins, one draw and four losses for their seven points.

Saunders Sports Club one time the glamour boys of soccer scene and the present holders of the Kit Premier League Championship who were lying right at the bottom of the table failing to win a single game after the completion of five games with four points have moved a little bit upwards with one victory and three draws to collect seven points from seven games.

At present they are placed at the eighth slot in the segment A. Now the battle rages with the four top teams in the points table, Ratnam SC, Negombo YSC, Police and the Jupiters SC.

The Navy Sports Club which got to the top from the commencement of the Segment 'B' have maintained their position upto last week. They hold an unbeaten record at finishing seven games, five wins and two draws to have an aggregate of 17 points.

Kandy York Sports Club and Red Sun Sports Club are lying behind Navy with 13 points each. York SC has completed six matches but Red Sun SC has completed seven matches to collect their 13 points.

Super Beach Sports Club from Kalutara is positioned at the bottom of the Segment 'B' competition. The debutants this year the Super Beach SC has been able to collect only four points with the completion of six games.

Last weekend the table leaders Ratnam SC lost to Negombo Youth SC by a solitary goal. The winning goal was scored by G. P. C. Karunaratne in the 30th minute of the first session.

During this game Nandana Kumara of Negombo Youth received the red card from the referee. Ratnam's loss here was the first for the season. The match was played at Sugathadasa Stadium.

In a another game Police SC overcame the strong outfit from Army SC to register a 3-2 victory. E. B. N. Charaka, S. M. Rafeek, and D. M. Sugath scored for winners and B. S. Fernando and M. N. M Isadeen scored for losers Army SC.

Jupiters SC beat Renown SC two goals to nil. K. N. C. Fernando and K. R. P. Fernando scored goals for winners.

Saunders SC recorded comfortable victory against Java Lane SC 2 goals to nil. C. L. Samarasekera and Mohamed Amanulla the veteran who switched over to Saunders from Ratnam SC scored the winning goals.

Air Force went down to Blue Star Sports Club after a strong fight back one goal to nil at St. Sebastian's grounds, Kandana. The only goal scored by Blue Star came from the boot of Mohamed Fawzan in the 12th minute.

Segment B

There were two matches played during the last weekend in the above segment. At Welisara Navy grounds the table leaders Navy SC drew New Youngs SC two all. Navy's both goals were scored in the first session by R. M. J. Dhammika. Meanwhile the goal for New Youngs were scored by W. A. S. S. Perera and W. S. I. Fernando.

The other game played at Gampola saw the Old Bens SC outplay Red Sun SC, Gampola one goal to nil.

Segment A

At Sugathadasa Stadium Police SC beat Army SC 3-2

At Sugathadasa Stadium Negombo Youth SC beat Ratnam SC 1-0

At Sugathadasa Stadium Jupiters SC beat Renown SC 2-0

At Sugathadasa Stadium Saunders SC beat Java Lane SC 2-1

At St. Sebastian's ground Kandana Blue Star SC beat Air Force SC 1-0

Segment B

At Navy grounds, Welisara Navy SC drew with New Youngs SC 2-2

Old Bens SC beat Red Sun SC 1-0
