International Deaf Day tomorrow
THE International Deaf Day falls on the last Sunday during September
every year all over the world.
This is held to create awareness among the public to know how much
the deaf could contribute to the society and country's economic growth.
Shivantha Vivekanandan, President, Deaf School Past Pupils'
Association, School for the Deaf, Ratmalana said the deaf parade will be
held tomorrow jointly organised by the Deaf School Past Pupils'
Association and Parent-Teachers' Association, sponsored by Lions Club of
Pelanwaththa-Honnaththara, 306A2 headed by Project Chairman Jayantha
Weerasinghe.
Deaf schoolchildren with their parents and members of the Lions Club
will parade the streets in Ratmalana.
There will be deaf school dancers, outstanding deaf sportsmen,
sportswomen and past pupils, well-wishers and teachers joining in the
parade.
The walk would commence at 9.00 a.m. from the School for the Deafs'
premises, Ratmalana and will take the route - Borupana Road, Galle Road
up to the Maliban Junction and back to the school.
The handicraft exhibition and sale done by past and present students,
will be held at the Stanley Hall, School for the Deaf, Ratmalana.
Netball and cricket matches will be played between the present and
past pupils of the school.
Awards will also be given. A medical camp will also be held
