Maligawa Development Fund allocates Rs. 2b for tsunami wrecked
houses

THE Mahanuwara Maligawa Development Fund has allocated Rs. two
billion for the reconstruction of tsunami wrecked houses, said the Most
Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera of the Malwatte
Chapter addressing a ceremony organised by members of the Matara Bodhi
Arakshaka Sabawa to welcome the newly elected Maha Nayaka of Shyamopali
Maha Nikaya recently held at Matara Bodhiya precinct.
This ceremony was patronized by Matara Bodhi Arakshaka Sabawa, Matara
District Secretariat, Matara Divisional Secretariat, YMBA Matara,
Traders Association of Matara and Matara District Sanga Sabawa of Siyam
Nikaya.
The Maha Nayaka Thera was conducted in procession to the Matara
Bodhiya precinct.
Minister of Buddhasasana, Ratnasiri Wickremanayake told the
Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter when he called on him at the
Malwatte Viharaya that an allocation of Rupees two million was made to
each of the temples devastated by the tsunami.
The Malwatte Chapter has organised benevolent scheme to upgrade the
living standard of poor Buddhists.
Sanga Sabas already have been constituted at Hambantota, Bibile and
Moneragala. For the well-being of Buddhism, both the laity and laymen
should act together, the Maha Nayaka Thera said.
President of Bodhi Arakshaka Sabawa and former District Secretary,
Matara S.K. Chandrasoma said the Matara Bodhi Arakshaka Sabawa is
carrying out welfare activities for the benefit of the Buddhist
population particularly in the Matara district.
Chief Sanga Nayaka of South, Ven. Pallattara Sumanajothi Thera,
Sanganayaka Talahagama Ven. Gnanarathana Thera, Rajakeeya Panditha
Godagama Chulalankara Thera and several others spoke. |
