Short circuit caused Police HQ fire

CABINET Spokesman Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the investigations conducted so far in connection with the recent fire at the Police Headquarters have confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

The Minister said the fire which took place at Police Headquarters on September 14 had damaged three office rooms. The fire broke out at the office of the Senior DIG Range 3 and spread to the office of the Senior DIG Range 2 and the DIG Personnel.

On the directive of IGP Chandra Fernando, DIG CID Lionel Gunatilake commenced investigations. The preliminary report has already been handed over to the IGP, the Minister told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

The Government analyst who visited the scene has also concluded that the fire was due to an electrical short circuit. Even the Ceylon Electricity Board has confirmed this, the Minister said. UK and RM
