Devmin - Snooker champion of MCA

Devmin Karunaratne of Emerchemic NB (Ceylon) Ltd. emerged the new snooker champion of MCA, when he beat Lankem's, Ameer Muthuwappa in a gruelling five-framer at the 3rd MCA Snooker Championships, concluded at the MCA table on Friday.

Top seeded Karunaratne, runner-up at last year's tournament flexed his muscles before going into the final beating the MCA President, Adel Hashim, 55/41 & 79/43 in the semi-final.

The bottom half semi-final between the cool headed, Basil Perera (Chairman Tournament Committee, Sri Lanka Cricket) of V-Care, and the aggressive, bottom seed, Muthuwappa, which generated a lot of interest, did not come off, much to the disappointment of all, as Perera had to award a walk-over, being indisposed. In the final, Karunaratne beaming with confidence, started off with a bang, winning the first frame, 68/47.

Muthuwappa came back with all his mite to take the 2nd and 3rd 60/48 & 59/34 to install a big fright on Friday and a re-gourvanated, Karunaratne bulldozed, Muthuwappa to take it all and the championship, 54/30 & 72/16.

Associated at the awards presentation were from the sponsors, Soflogic Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. and Softlogic International (Pvt) Ltd, their CEO, Ranjan Perera and his General manager, Dhammika Jayakody, MCA President, Adel Hashim and his two Vice President, Tissa Madigasekera and Neil Perera.
