Tissa Attanayake day dreaming: SLFP organiser
by L.B. Wijayasiri
UNP Deputy Secretary General Tissa Attanayake who failed to win in
his own village Uda Dumbara at the last General Election is now trying
to win Kundasale for Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Election.
This is nothing more than a day dream, chief SLFP organiser for
Kundasale and Central Provincial Councillor R.G. Samaranayake said.
Speaking at a SLFP meeting at the Menikhinna Party Office in
Kundasale, Samaranayake said following S.B. Dissanayake's brother Saliya
Bandara pledging support to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the
presidential election, a large number of UNPers were planning to support
Rajapakse.
He said even the Uda Dumbara Prdeshiya Sabha chairman who had been in
the UNP for 40 years and the Pradeshiya Sabha chairman for 16 years and
a supporter of Attanayake had pledged to support Rajapakse.
Samaranayake said Attanayake had been issuing various statements to
the media about the agreement between the JVP and the Prime Minister.
"But this is not an agreement signed between the JVP and the SLFP,"
Samaranayake said .
"It is a memorandum of understanding between the JVP and the Prime
Minister by which the JVP had pledged to support the Prime Minister at
the Presidential Election. SLFP and JVP policies are different from each
other and the two parties will go along carrying their policies
separately. The memorandum of understanding between the JVP and the
Prime Minister will not have any adverse effects on the SLFP," he said. |
