President calls for broad consensus

Solving the ethnic problem requires a broad consensus and joint action between the major political parties and groups in the country, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said in New York on Wednesday.

Anura clarifies media reports

In a statement issued from New York yesterday, Foreign Minister Anura Bandaranaike clarified certain media reports published in Colombo. He said: "I am presently attending the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York with the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and several other Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

SLLRDC markets offshore sand for construction

THE Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) has commenced marketing 300,000 cubes of sea sand pumped from the offshore as a solution to the severe shortage of sand for construction.
