South Africa A players escape injury after road crash

COLOMBO, Tuesday (Reuters) - South Africa's A squad escaped injury after a road accident in central Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

The squad were travelling back from team practice in Dambulla to their hotel in Kandy when a timber truck crashed head-on into the team bus.

"A truck driver appeared to have lost control of his vehicle when he was overtaking," A team coach Vincent Barnes said in a statement. "He came straight at us and collided with our bus and, although we did not get hurt, our police escorts were seriously hurt when the truck slid and hit them," he added.

"I want to assure everybody back home that we are fine and the match will go on as planned." South Africa A take on Sri Lanka A in a three-day unofficial test starting on Wednesday in Dambulla.
