Songs for children

Veteran lyricist Bandara Ehaliyagoda will launch his latest song collection titled “Athupathara Pipi Mal” especially created for children today (September 14) at 7.00 pm at the BMICH premises where the International Book Exhibition is being held.

“Children’ s world has no jealousy, hatred or rivalry. It is filled with wonderful imagination. They find happiness in the company of animals, colourful flowers, clouds and the bright sun. But today competitive society has dragged them to tuition classes from their fantastic world. They are overloaded with homework and they have no time for sports.

“However when children perform to the tune of popular songs sung by elders it is evident that we do not have good children’s songs.

Bandara’s sole attempt is to present a good collection of children’s songs that will help not only the young ones but also their parents.

The music is directed by Rohana Weerasinghe, H.M. Jayawardena, Gayan Ganakadara, and Victor Ratnayake.

Songs have been sung by the child artistes such as Harshana Dissanayake, Sandali Hansika, Hansa Kinkini, Nadi Tharu Bhasini along with students of Kala Bhoomi Academy and singer Edward Jayakody, Charitha Priyadarshani, Sunil Edirisinghe, Seneviratne Wanninayake, Manjula Vithanage and Lakshman Wijesekera.

The launching ceremony which is taking place at the site of the Merry-go round at the BMICH premises is presented by child artistes Dasun Madusanka, Pramudi Karunaratne and Nithyawani Kandasami.
