Lankan,Indonesian govts did a better job - Katrina victims
Garry Guan, who leads Asian American community activities and North
Dekalb-Rotary club Katrina Relief missions in Mississippi, told The
Academic that the Sri Lankan and Indonesian governments did a better job
in handling the tsunami disaster when compared with the US Government's
relief efforts for Katrina hurricane victims.
However, despite the indifferent response from the officials, The
Academic witnessed a growing number of civilian efforts to supply relief
aid to the Katrina stricken areas.
Katrina victims have expressed their growing anger and frustration
against the Bush administration for a lethargic response to the crisis.
The victims claimed that no adequate measures were taken to relieve
their suffering.
"We did not get anything from the federal Government. Yesterday we
got bread from the Red Cross which too were expiry dated," said a
victim.
Another victim who demanded a public apology from the administration
claimed that the America must be shameful about the manner the
authorities handled the natural disaster.
"Is this America? We are stranded for days and our federal Government
is doing nothing sufficient. Those who in power have no empathy towards
our suffering. Their ruthless indifference is very sickening.
The Government was not ready for a crisis everybody predicted. The
worst part is the extremely slow nature of the response," he added. |
