Blood donation

A blood donation to inmates of Cancer Hospital, Maharagama organised by the Lions Club of Sri Jayawardenapura Metro supported by City Pharmacy, Etul Kotte will be held on September 10 at 8.30 a.m. at Sri Perakumba Piriven Viharaya, Etul Kotte.


Cancer awareness walk

The cancer awareness walk organised by the Kandy Branch of the Sri Lanka Cancer Society to coincide with the International Cancer Awareness Week will be held in Kandy tomorrow.


Roads closed for perahera

The Police Headquarters Traffic Division yesterday announced the temporary closure of roads for traffic in Ambalangoda for the annual Esala Maha Perahera of the Ambalangoda Hirewatta Modera Devalaya on September 9 and 10.

The temporary closure will be effective from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on September 9 and from midnight to 5 a.m. on September 10.

Traffic from Colombo to Galle will be diverted near the Ambalangoda police station to Elpitiya Road to get back to Galle Road at Kahawa junction via Watugedera and Batapola.

Traffic from Galle in the direction of Colombo will be diverted from Kahawa junction to reach Galle Road to Balapitiya via Batapola, Watugedera and Heenatiya.


Graduateship programme

A graduateship programme in chemistry will be held at the Adamantane House, 341/22, Kotte Road, Welikada, Rajagiriya on September 24.

Those who have three A/L passes can follow this course offered by the College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.

Those interested can obtain more information at the orientation session on September 13 or 16 at 2.30 pm at Adamantane House in Rajagiriya.


Coffee morning

A fund raiser organised by the Sri Lanka Malay Association Rupee Fund will be held on September 11 from 9.30 a.m. at the Galadari Hotel in aid of their many social development projects. Malay dances, songs, fashion shows, a Latin American dance by Anushan from Dance World and a presentation by Ramzi Rahman will be some of the highlights.

The Rupee Fund is in the 52nd year and is an approved charity organisation which serves the less advantaged.

Some of services includes monthly allowances to the widows and the Elders, annual distribution of rice and dry rations, a pre-school, English language classes, computer training, scholarships to university and Advanced Level students.

The two storeyed building of the Rupee Fund at the Padang complex is being extended to accommodate its activities.


Visitors centre

Environment and Natural Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie will open the 'visitors centre' at the Minneriya National Park tomorrow at 2.30 p.m.

Deputy Minister Bandula Basnayake will also be present.


Book launch

A book on Language and Space by Dileep Chandralal, Professor of Language and Communication at Okinawa University Japan, will be launched today at 3.00 p.m. at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo.

Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Nayaka Thera, Chancellor, Sri Jayawardenapura University will be the chief guest.

Prof. K.N.O. Dharmadasa will deliver the keynote address.

The book is a Vishvalekha publication.
