Local Govt Week from Sept 12 to 18

The Local Government Week organised by the Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry will be held from September 12 to 18 to make the Local Government bodies more useful and responsible to the public.

The theme of the Week is "People's friendly local Government administration with the active participation of people".

Numerous activities will be conducted by the Provincial Councils islandwide to celebrate this Week. Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon told the media that his Ministry has planned to hold this Week to educate people on the role played by Provincial Councils.

The Minister announced that the next Local Government Election would be held in March next year.

He said that during the Week health camp, development projects, education and sports activities will be launched.

The Ministry will issue a commemorative stamp, hoist the Local Government flag, Opposite Local Government institutions islandwide to mark this week.
