New building for children's home

The New Building of the Peter Weerasekera Children's Home Dambuwa,
Buthpitiya was opened recently by Thor Herman Thorsen from the Rotary
Club of Gymsoy, Norway who came to Sri Lanka to attend the function.
The Chief Guest,and other invitees were welcomed at the entrance by
the Children of the Peter Weerasekera Children's Home and conducted to
the venue with the Children's Home Band. The Trustees of the Peter
Weerasekera Foundation Singha Weerasekera and Mala Weerasekera were also
among the participants.
This is a Joint Project by the Rotary Clubs of Gymsoy and Colombo
Central. It was funded by the Rotary Club of Gymsoy and NORAD.
The New Building comprising Dormitory, Study Room, Matron's Quarters,
Office Room and complete with Toilet and other facilities will
accommodate 25 Children. The admission of the first child was made by
Merrick Pieris, President of Rotary Club of Colombo
Central in the presence of several officials of the Rotary Club. A
spiritual ceremony was conducted by Rev. Banagala Upatissa Nayake Thera,
President of the Mahabodhi Society and Chief High Priest of Japan.
Several gifts to the children were distributed by Thor Herman Thorsen,
Rev. Banagala Upatissa Nayake Thera, and members of the Rotary Club of
Colombo Central.
With the Chanting of Pirith by the Venerable Monks, the Traditional
Oil Lamp was lit by the distinguished visitors.
The traditional boiling of a pot of milk was conducted by several
members of the local committee of management. |
