Tos Lanka to invest Rs. 700 m in factory expansion

One of Sri Lanka's largest electronic assembling solution companies
Tos Lanka Company (Pvt) Ltd has invested Rs. 700m for a major factory
expansion.
The company is located at the Biyagama Export Processing Zone.
The new factory will start commercial operations next month and will
mainly focus on manufacturing LCD monitors, magnetic coil and energy
saving lamps for the Indian market.
The company expects to access the huge Indian market through the
Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, its Chief Executive
Officer Merrick Gooneratne said.
He said that once the company starts its commercial operations, it is
also planning to invest a further Rs. 30 million to manufacture clean
room electronic products to supply the high tech mobile phone industry
in Japan, as a part of its development plan.
Gooneratne said the company has invested on training and development
of staff to manufacture these products to international standards.
The company operates with a modern factory with manual and automated
electronic assembly lines supported by chip mounting and wave soldering
plants, together with extensive testing facilities. The end products of
the company are also used for automobile companies, surveillance
equipments and bio energy based products for various markets including
european markets, he said.
The holding company provides a full sub-contract design and product
engineering services for Tos Lanka.
Since the company is doing extremely well in Sri Lanka, the holding
Japanese company is interested in investing heavily in the future, he
said. The core business of Tos Lanka is assembling and soldering of
flexible and normal Printed Circuit Board (PCBs) which can be used from
wristwatch to aircraft.
The company has skilled workers who have been trained in Japan in
assembly, testing and quality evaluation according to international
printed circuit standards.
Tos Lanka is a wholly owned subsidiary of the major electronic
manufacturer, Tosslec Company Ltd of Japan. It was established 10 years
back in Sri Lanka.
The parent company is in business for the last 30 years and as an
expansion project, a factory was opened in Sri Lanka in 1995.
The company is registered under the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. |
