A six member gang operating in the Colombo area who had allegedly sent threatening letters to leading businessmen in Colombo on purported LTTE letterheads demanding ransom were yesterday produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Sujeewa Nissanka and remanded till September 7.

On an application by the officials of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), who are investigating the massive alleged racket, the Magistrate directed prison authorities to produce the suspects for an identification parade on the next date.

CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda, who is directing investigations, said that master minder behind the entire episode is an ex- Reserve Police Constable. Director Lugoda appeals to the public who had fallen victims to this organised gang to seek assistance from the Colombo Crime Division Head Office at Dematagoda.
