Asiri introduces laser treatment for prostrate enlargement

Asiri Surgical Hospital brings a new revolution to the medical industry in the region introducing Green Light Laser Prostectomy.

This is the most cutting edge way of performing surgery on prostrate enlargement and for Asiri Surgical Hospital to be offering it to a country like Sri Lanka is a gigantic leap for medical technology in the country.

Consultant urologist of Kings College Hospital in UK Dr. Gordon Muir said that this technology is only about three years old even in the UK.

He said that the prostate gland of men which is situated just below the urinary bladder gets enlarged and gives problems after 60 years to about 50% of men. The most popular solution for this problem was a serious surgery which took 2-3 days stay in the hospital, wearing a catheter and passing a lot of blood.

But this new technology has made this conventional procedure redundant. Using the Green Light Laser Prostectomy doctors can now do the surgery through a special laser beam that will vaporise the enlarged prostate and the patient can go home in a few hours, Dr Gordon said.

Two Sri Lankan doctors who were trained in UK with wide experience are carrying out this surgery in Sri Lanka according to Asiri Surgical Hospital authorities.
