Kit Premier League Soccer C'ships 2005 : Saunders and Negombo YSC suffer defeats

Defending champions of the Kit Premier League suffered their third defeat when they lost to Army SC three goals to two at Army grounds. Saunders who lost the opening game to Negombo Youth SC one nil never rose upto keep their status in following matches.

B. S. Fernando (2) and M. N. M. Isadeen scored goals for Army while M. M. Amamulla and Isuru Perera one goal each for Saunders SC.

Meanwhile in a another Segment A game Air Force drew with Renown SC one all. Java Lane SC too had to settle for a draw with Police SC at City League grounds two all. M. N. Hameed and I. A. Lamahewa scored for Slave Island Club. A. A. S. D. Kumara and T. J. D. Kumara scored one each for Police SC.

The other upset was seen at Kadolkele grounds Negombo when Jupiters SC trounced the much fancied Negombo Youth Sports Club three goals to one. Negombo Youth SC packed with six national caps including Lankan skipper Dudley Steinwall could not stand the onslaught of home town rivals Jupiters SC. This also happens to be the second time that NYSC suffered defeat in the hands of Jupiters in a Premier League game.

In a Segment "B" game played at Kalutara between debutants to the Premier League Super Beach SC and New Youngs SC from Kalutara saw the Kalutara team outplay the visitors three goals to one.

New Youngs SC were in the lead after 22 minutes of play when W. A. S. Sampath Perera got a goal. But Fernando got the equaliser in the 38th minute and Lemons were taken with scores level. Super Beach strikers R. R. Silva and S. M. Perera found the net in the 61st and 86th minute respectively to seal victory for Kalutara team.

Super Beach which met Victory SC from Slave Island on Sunday at City League grounds lost one nil. In a another Segment "B" match at Bogambara stadium York SC drew with Navy SC 0-0.

The other two games from the Segment "B" saw Red Sun SC from Gampola and Old Bens from Kotahena overcame Matara SC 3-1 and New Youngs SC 1-0.
