DIG Wijewardena murder:

More suspects to be arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the murder of DIG Charles Wijewardena in Jaffna had identified eight suspects who are involved in the killing and their arrest is imminent, a senior officer of the investigation unit told the "Daily News" on Thursday.

According to the investigators the eight suspects after the killing had left their village in Jaffna and taken shelter in several other areas which are now known to the CID. The special CID team was sent to Jaffna by the CID DIG on the direction of IGP Chandra Fernando.

DIG Charles Wijewardena was killed by a suspected LTTE instigated mob in Jaffna when he tried to inquire into a death of a civilian at Inuvil, Jaffna two weeks ago. Earlier on Wednesday two policemen investigating the murder of DIG Wijewardena were injured in a shooting incident when they were engaged in a search operation.
