Eight years RI for killer driver
 

Colombo Additional Magistrate (Traffic) Ms. Sujatha Alahaperuma sentenced Epasinghe Arachchige Seneviratne, a private bus driver, to eight years Rigorous Imprisonment after he was found guilty of negligent driving and causing the death of a pedestrian.

Magistrate Alahaperuma also imposed a fine of Rs.3500 on the accused. In default of the fine he was further sentenced to two months RI.

Seneviratne was charged under the Traffic Ordinance on three counts including negligent driving and causing the death of K. Chandrasena of Veluwana Road, Dematagoda while he was walking on the Gunasinghepura pavement on January 26, 2003.Sentencing the accused, the Magistrate observed that he had not taken any steps to prevent the fatal accident.
